Through PowerPoint presentations and walking tours, commemorations and compiling oral histories, Newburgh By Design is part of an ongoing effort to bring greater understanding about the importance of Newburgh's architects, historic district and losses during Urban Renewal and beyond to the forefront.
Walking Tours of Newburgh

Since 2004 I've offered walking tours of Newburgh's historic district. Since that time, developing several themed tours related to topics such as "Newburgh in the 1960s," "A.J. Downing and his Disciples," "Libby Lyon Tour of Newburgh [Urban Renewal]" and "Crossroads of the Revolutionary War," "Newburgh's Forgotten Past [Bootleggers and Prohibition]."
“Downing and Vaux: Collaboration and Friendship”

Orange Country Historian, Johanna Yaun discusses the history of Newburgh architecture through the lens of the collaboration and friendship of Andrew Jackson Downing and Calvert Vaux. The lecture took place within the shell of the William A. M. Culbert House (a Downing and Vaux designed home) at the site of Martin Roth's art installation “From 2017-2021 Martin Roth transformed a ruin into a garden for a plant concert.”
